I do remember the day I discovered Céline Dion. It was an afternoon in the summer of 1995. In the morning I had participated at some French lessons for beginners, no homework, no work, so I went into the music shop next to the McDonald's in the 'Placette', the shopping mall of Vevey. They had lots of CDs in French I of course did not know at all. Why I picked this CD of Céline Dion I do not remember. Anyway, I asked the sales person to please play it for me. No problem, she said and gave me headphones. Wow! It blew my mind, and I was hooked on this singer immediately.
But, to be honest, only on the songs in French she recorded with Jean-Jacques Goldman - another guy I never had heard of before. Sometimes it really pays to dive into another language, another country, another culture. I'm glad that I did it.
